“ For some reason, people identified each other only by their first names. I always find that impersonality a bit off-putting, as knowing people's COMPLETE names allows me to remember them better. Aside from that, most of the time was taken up trying out different improv exercises, which I though were helpful in loosening up some of the shyer people and sparking their creativity. As with any group, a subset developed of the most active -- and most fearless - participants. I joined that, as it set examples for the fast-thinking, creative others to follow. I have always liked doing improv and particularly enjoy it when I am working with other actors who can pick up on a surprise bit and run with it. Improv can spark good ideas but the problem with it's freewheeling structure is that routines may not go anywhere. I prefer comedy that has at least some worked out structure which allows for creative ad-libbed improv. ”
